The Sweedish Side of Things

I am in Northern Germany right on the Baltik Sea. Across from us are Denmark and Sweeden. As a result the Nordic and Scandianvian influence is huge. The theme is monochromatic, simple and streamlined. It is quite charming.

If this is country then I am in!

I have to say that true country is too country for me. True modern is too modern for me...but the mix of both definitely works for me.

Welcome to our new table

Well after waiting for over 4 months our new dining room has arrived. A simple trestle table from Restoration Hardware. Natural in color, wood and shape I am in love with its simplicity. I can already imagine the dinners, filled with friends, food and laughter, I feel lucky to be able to have such a beautiful piece of furniture in this house, our labor of love.

Now comes the question of seating...what to do next? Options anyone? let me know what you think!>

Sweet Pumpkins

When it comes to getting pumpkins in the front of my house the big orange ones never win. Old fashion pumpkins in the shades of white and green make me happier and go perfectly with my grey house. Yes oranges ones do make it but they have to be warty...go figure!

A soft glow

I had to travel to Northern Germany last week, a trip I have to do just about once a month. This time as my usual hotel was booked I found myself in a brand new part of town, one with still old cobble stones and narrow streets. As my days are long I found myself walking back once the daylight was almost gone and the street lights were coming on. I noticed that some of the older streets had old lanterns still adding such personality and charm that I stopped to take a closer look.

I have to admit Lanterns are beautiful. The older the better! There seems to be a lantern revival of sorts and this makes me very happy. My favorite ones? Wood with German Mercury Glass reflectors. A real festival of light !
