A soft glow
I had to travel to Northern Germany last week, a trip I have to do just about once a month. This time as my usual hotel was booked I found myself in a brand new part of town, one with still old cobble stones and narrow streets. As my days are long I found myself walking back once the daylight was almost gone and the street lights were coming on. I noticed that some of the older streets had old lanterns still adding such personality and charm that I stopped to take a closer look.
I have to admit Lanterns are beautiful. The older the better! There seems to be a lantern revival of sorts and this makes me very happy. My favorite ones? Wood with German Mercury Glass reflectors. A real festival of light !

I confess
I confess I did something I was not supposed to do....I bought something at Brimfield. Never planned to but there they were looking me. Mrs and Mrs from Lincoln, Massachusetts, early 19th century portraits.
I had been looking for a pair where both spouses made me happy and they do for a very, very long time. This was the opportunity of a lifetime and I grabbed it. No regrets, at least not anymore. But I will have to remember that Brimfield has a way to surprise and provide the unexpected to even the most seasoned visitors.
Yes, I will go back next year. I am am addicted!

still going coastal
OK so we are midst September and I should be thinking fall...Yes I'll get there but today is a nice mid 70s dry sunny kind of day one that would make you believe, if for just one more day that we are still in the midst of summer...
Coastal living shares some amazing coastal properties to get lost in and believe that we too could maybe be so lucky as to own on of those beauties...yes dreaming is not only allowed but encouraged.

The New Traditional
One of my favorite books is "The New Traditional" By Darryl Carter.
Rarely do I find a book where every page gives me a sense of calm and belonging. This one does. My taste is much more eclectic and brighter colors are part of my life but his sense of style makes me want to move in and stay.
this is a book to own, and keep out on the coffee table, you will enjoy it over and over and you will find your guests unable to put it down.

Brimfield
Going to Brimfield Thursday...so exited So I am rushing to get my work done, there will be no blog tonight.
I am so thrilled! In all my years going to Brimfield this will be the first time I am going in the fall. The sun is supposed to shine and the temperatures will be perfect! May was raw , rainy and cold so I am looking forward to the change! How to make this an even greater day? I am going with my dear friend Kathie. She was awesome to antique with this Spring... this will be great day away from the office!

Seacology
One of my favorite charity is Seacology http://www.seacology.org/. This organization is small but really strong and gets a lot done.
Its main goal is to preserve small islands around the world, the land, the animals but also the people restoring or maintaining the fragile balance.
I know there are a lot of charities and this is not the only one I support but it is definitely one of my favorites.
Spread the word.
